In the automotive world,’ boost’ is linked to exerting pressure from devices like superchargers or turbo chargers. Normally, the pressure which can be referred as boost, if only it exceeds the normal atmospheric pressure i.e., 14.5 psi.
Horse power enhanced tremendously
Technically, car engine is an air pump that burns fuel. The engine gets power as air flow in and out increases. Turbo chargers and super chargers are used for forcing air into the engine, which increases the horsepower and torque tremendously. In other words, the objective of a turbocharger or a supercharger is to improve upon the size-to-output efficiency of an engine overcoming its inherent limitations.
These power boosters increase the pressure at the point where air is entering the cylinder of a car engine; a greater mass of air (oxygen) will be forced in as the inlet manifold pressure increases. The additional oxygen makes it possible to add more fuel, increasing the power and torque output of the engine.
